Coffee with Kafka

I went to some classic traditional coffeeshops in Vienna that were amazing, although a little stuffy, but I totally missed this totally hip coffeeshop right around the corner from the hotel! Cafe Kafka!

By the time I discovered it there was only time to peer inside and imagine myself settled in and enjoying the cool vibe along with an espresso.

The place has been around since 1908. The translation of their web page describes it as a "stylish cult location" where you can "leave everyday life behind in convivial company."  Convivial!  A great word, adding to the literary aura already invoked by the cafe's namesake.

Happily I did have time to venture into an intriguing bookstore/cafe called "Phil", when my sister Mich and I stumbled upon it one evening.

The sign on the door that greeted us invited us to give ourselve over to a variety of activities. Hmmm....which of these would I do?

The displays were colorful and full of variety, and the soft low lighting did seem conducive to stealing a smooch, if one was so inclined.

And if one was so inclined, a mod, well-stocked bar and bartender were ready to serve.
